This City, That Color: Chengdu Edtion

Minjiang Village Rest Station: A Dialogue of Color and Community

The final chapter of the color journey arrives in Minjiang Village, Chengdu, where MUDA-Architects’ Lu Yun reimagined a rural rest stop into a space of cultural warmth and contrast. Designed for both community gatherings and greenway users, the concrete pavilion blends modern form with Sichuan traditions like deep eaves and semi-outdoor “gray spaces.”

Its striking red exterior—achieved through custom pigment blends—reflects the vitality and openness of Chengdu. Inside, a sea-blue stairwell offers a quiet pause, guiding visitors from boldness to introspection. This interplay of red and blue creates a color-driven experience that speaks to both collective energy and private reflection.
