Nestled in the peaceful landscape of Chongming Island, the MadeIn Art Centre reimagines three abandoned farmhouses into a contemplative artist residency. Designed by Wu Jiayin of Acts and Pathways, the project offers a quiet counterpoint to the adjacent museum, focusing on stillness and introspection.
Housing accommodations, studios, and communal areas, the centre is defined by its understated materials and calm palette. Locally sourced green-glazed tiles root the building in its natural context, while Benjamin Moore’s “Hollingsworth Green” softens the interior, creating a gentle backdrop for creative exploration.
Through thoughtful spatial restraint and muted tones, the MadeIn Art Centre becomes a place of retreat—where artists can create, reflect, and find clarity through quiet design.
